Balaghat Student Selected for ISRO's Young Scientist Program, Will Visit Sriharikota

Balaghat – In a proud moment for Waraseoni, Aarohi Pardhi, a class 10 student from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, has been selected for a prestigious visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) facility in Sriharikota. During this 15-day educational tour from May 18 to 31, Aarohi will get hands-on exposure to the fundamentals of space research and science.

Her mathematics teacher, Mr. Gaurishankar Pardhi, shared that Aarohi’s selection comes under the Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA), an initiative by ISRO aimed at nurturing young scientific minds by giving them early insight into the world of space technology and research.

About the YUVIKA Program

YUVIKA is an annual program launched by ISRO to foster interest in space science among school students. It targets students studying in class 9, and the selection process includes an online test held in March each year. The selection criteria also consider 50% weightage of the class 8 performance and achievements in national science competitions and Olympiads. The overall assessment carries a total of 180 marks.

Objectives of the Program

To provide basic knowledge of space science, technology, and its applications to young students.
To raise awareness about emerging trends in space technology.
To inspire students to pursue a career in the space sector.
To encourage scientific curiosity and critical thinking among the youth.

Activities and Learning

As part of this residential two-week program, students will receive classroom lectures on various aspects of space science and technology. They will witness experimental demonstrations, visit research facilities and laboratories, and interact directly with ISRO scientists and experts. In addition to academic exposure, the program also includes extracurricular activities such as yoga, meditation, sports, cultural programs, and local sightseeing.

The YUVIKA program is a commendable initiative by ISRO that aims to ignite the spark of scientific curiosity and prepare the next generation of space researchers and innovators.
