A new tech company needed engineers. The CEO had arranged a walk-in interview for them. The conference room was spacious, and the candidates faced challenging questions. When they left, sweat dampened their clothes. Others felt the same.

The salary was attractive, enticing all to pursue it, but the interview proved tougher than expected. They were instructed to stay until evening.

A fresh candidate applied for the vacancy. Despite being absent, he thought, “Although I lack experience, I must persist until the end. Who knows, fortune may favor me.” With this mindset, he entered and asked, “May I come in, sir?”

“Please do,” nodded the executive.

“Have a seat,” another voice welcomed him. He noticed six more executives seated nearby, which intensified his nervousness. Despite trying to conceal his fear, he couldn’t shake it off.

“Come on, take a seat,” they insisted.

“Thank you, sir,” he replied, taking his place.

The CEO examined his documents, glanced at him, and said, “Make yourself comfortable.”

He heard the word ‘comfort’ but felt uneasy among the executives. Taking a deep breath, he decided to let go and brace himself.

“Okay, Mr. Rahul, according to your profile, where did you complete your engineering?” an executive inquired.

“I completed mechanical engineering in Bhopal,” he responded.

“Good. Your profile indicates no relevant experience. Care to explain?” the executive probed.

“Yes, sir. I recently graduated, so I haven’t had the opportunity to gain experience. How can one gain experience without a job?” he reasoned.

“Fair point, but we require it,” the executive stated, flipping through pages. “You’re from Navodaya, right?”

This question caught him off guard. “Yes, sir, until twelfth,” he confirmed, recalling his past.

“Alright, do you know how to create a low-cost domestic water heater?” the executive queried.

After careful consideration, he replied, “Yes, sir, I do.”

“Do you know the trick to open a trunk without breaking the lock?” the executive continued.

Though puzzled by the questions, he admitted, “Sorry, sir, but yes, I know that too.”

Before more questions were asked, the chief gestured to halt. He was asked to wait in the waiting room. Rahul quietly retreated, awaiting his result.

In the conference room, executives discussed, “Sir, I’m surprised you asked such unconventional questions. He lacks work experience, yet you chose him despite other options?”

“True, he lacks experience, but he has seven years of experience surviving in challenging situations at Navodaya. Their creativity knows no bounds. They possess the resilience to overcome the toughest situations. I believe he’ll excel,” the CEO explained.

“Why do you think so, sir?”

“Let’s just say, I’m your boss because I’m better than you in some aspects,” he chuckled.

“Indeed, you are more efficient and valuable,” they agreed.

“I was more interested in his life experiences at Navodaya than his college. I believe in the Navodaya spirit,” he smiled.

“And, just so you know, I’m also a product of Navodaya,” he revealed.

With no further questions, Rahul was handed an appointment letter.

Receiving the job, Rahul felt elated and promptly wrote a letter to his friend Shivam, for he was no longer jobless.
